Do you want to entice your guests with a homemade dessert or afternoon coffee treat, or as we say in Sweden “fika”, and impress them with your knowledge of cuisines from other cultures at the same time?
Make the amazingly easy and delicious Swedish Chocolate Balls.
3 deciliters of oats (Use your cup measure and fill to 300 milliliters.)
1 deciliter of sugar (Fill your cup measure to 100 milliliters)
¾ of a stick of butter (or a little more if the ingredients don’t all stick together.)
6 tablespoons of pure cocoa
2 tablespoons of strong black coffee (or if you want to make it the Helen way and a bit less traditionally Swedish, replace one of the table spoons of coffee with a table spoon of scotch whiskey.)
Coconut flakes (Best are the dry small ones that you find in Swedish or Indian stores. They’re a little hard to find, and in the picture, I’m using the longer moist version, they work too.)
Mix oats, sugar, butter, coffee (scotch) and cocoa in a bowl until you have a thick brown sticky paste.
Roll into small balls and place on a plate.
Pour the coconut flakes into a container with a lid, add a few chocolate balls at a time, close the lid and shake until the balls are covered with coconut flakes, place the finished balls back on your plate. Repeat until every ball is covered with coconut flakes.
That's it, they're ready to eat.
If you want, you can put them in the fridge for a little while before you taste them. It helps making them less sticky, especially if you want to stack them and bring them to a party.
