A Dramatic Morning Run

A Dramatic Morning Run

I posted this story on my personal Facebook page the other day and my friend pointed out that it ought to go on my blog. Good idea I think! I had a very dramatic morning run with the dogs and I'm feeling scared, thankful and annoyed. 😳❤️😡 Scared. As I'm coming down the running path on the west side, a man with a huge thick branch, like a walking stick, walks over the highway-cross-way and walks into the path. He's screaming and wielding the stick over his head. I run past him and I hear through my headphones, as I'm listening to a podcast about violence against women of all things, that he's really sounding angry and weird. My dogs are with me and they're turning their heads to see what's going on. First, I run up on the dirt among the bushes, pull my headphones off and turn to look. He's still screaming and waiving the stick. There are other people there and people are moving off to the side or ignoring him. Thankful. Just then I see a man at the compost center and the gate is wide open. I run inside and say, "I'm not comfortable, there's a screaming man out there with a stick." The nice man immediately waves me and the dogs further inside the compost area. Just then the man with the stick walks past and pushes himself up against the fence to the center and screams something about social media. The man at the compost center waits, then once the screaming man leaves he steps out to take a look at him and calls someone on his radio and tells the parks police I believe, of what’s going on. After that he tells me that I can stay for as long as I want and starts talking about his willow tree that isn’t doing so well. I’d never noticed that they have potted trees in there that I’m assuming benefits from our compost. I wasn’t that freaked out, but I wanted to wait until that man with the stick had disappeared and after a while I said thank you and went on my way. Annoyed. As I’m running home I’m thinking that maybe I should tell NYPD as well just in case the parks police that the guy from the compost center called don’t do anything. Just when I’m at my block I see two police cars, a van and a regular police car. Or so I think. I peek into the first car and wave, the officer sees me. Does nothing. I wave again. He looks at me. Does nothing. Just stares. It’s like in a bad movie. WTF? So I ignore him and go up to the van where a police officer is standing outside talking to the officers inside the van. I tell them that I want to report something. She looks at me and says, “No we’re traffic.” I see on her arm now too that it says Traffic. Ok…I get that you're traffic cops but can’t you at least ask what it’s about? Not even one question to see if they can at least call the right kinds of cops for me? It’s not very comforting to see two police cars with the words POLICE and NYPD on them but they won’t help!!?
