About
The Foremothers Café is a Virtual Reality World inspired by the café in Helen’s historical novel Sour Milk in Sheep’s Wool. In the book, her character Hanna opens a bakery where, in the evenings after closing, women gather to advocate for suffrage and equal rights. It becomes a space not only for activism but also for mutual support and lifelong friendships.
It was Hanna’s café that inspired Helen to create The Foremothers Café, making her a trailblazer in XR, and in the literary world, being the first novelist in the world to have created a Virtual Reality space inspired by one of the settings in her own novel. While it began as a VR reimagining of the café from her novel, it has since taken on a life of its own, growing into a thriving global community that’s both a Women’s History Museum and a Cultural Center.
